Canada Recalls China-made Digital Clamp Meter or Universal Meter

On December 16, 2010, the Canadian Ministry of Health and Extech Instruments jointly announced the voluntary recall of a Chinese digital clamp meter or multimeter.

The recalled Extech digital clamp models are EX612, EX613, EX622, and EX623; the universal watch models EX540, EX542, and EX570. "Extech" and product models are marked on the front of the product, serial numbers are marked on the back, and products whose serial numbers begin with the letter "A" are not included in this recall. The digital clamp meter or universal meter was sold in a hardware tool store in Canada from February 2008 to November 2010.

The number of products recalled this time is about 1077. The reason for the recall is that if the current speed is too low, the digital clamp meter or the multimeter cannot measure the exact voltage number, causing a risk of electric shock to the user. Up to now, Extech Instruments has received a report from the United States showing the number of erroneous voltages in the clamp meter or multimeter, and there is no personal injury. The Canadian Ministry of Health has not yet received any accident report.

To this end, Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled digital clamp meter or multimeter and contact Extech Instruments for free replacement of other clamp meters or multimeters.
