At the media meeting held on the same day, Ge Sibo said that China is the fastest growing lube oil market in the world. He predicted that by 2020, 50% of the global demand for lubricants will increase from China. This demand growth will come from various areas of the Chinese market, including automotive lubricants and industrial lubricants. It is based on this judgment that Shell has stepped up its layout in the Chinese lubricants market. Another lubricant oil blending plant in Tianjin is one of the actions.
According to Ge Sibo, the factory built in Nanman Port, Tianjin, is Shell's seventh lubricant blending plant in China. Previously, Shell has built six lubricants blending plants in China's Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai, accounting for one-third of its global blending plants. At present, Shell's lube oil production in China has reached 1.5 million tons per year, and it has secured a leading position in China's high-end lubricants market.
It is understood that the technology-leading Shell will not only increase the amount of products put into the Chinese market, but also accelerate the pace of Transfer of technology research and development to China. Ge Sibo revealed that Shell will build a lubricant technology R&D center in Shanghai to provide the most convenient technical support for the biggest market in the future.
