On July 8, 2015, Chinese Ambassador to Sudan Li Lian met with Sudan News Agency (SUNA) who interviewed him after meeting Sudanese Oil and Gas Minister Mohammed Zayed. Ambassador Li Lian said in an interview: "As the global oil price plummeted, PetroChina has reduced its investment in foreign countries, with the exception of Sudan."
Ambassador Li Lian added: "The relationship between China and Sudan is considered a model for South-South cooperation."
According to Chinese media reports, Ambassador Li Lian did not elaborate on how much money China intends to invest in Sudan. However, before he left Sudan in July 2011, China has invested more than US$20 billion in the oil industry in East Africa.
