On October 22, Bloomberg quoted Chen Binbo, vice president of Honda’s joint venture in China, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. as saying that Honda’s original plan and Dongfeng Motor started the construction of its third plant in China this year, but now The plan may be postponed until around 2017 and the target will be put into production no later than July 2018. Chen Binbo said that the final decision will be made at the end of this year.
Honda China’s relevant person said on the 22nd that Honda has never taken the initiative to announce this specific construction plan to the outside world, so it is impossible to talk about it.
However, public documents indicate that in December 2014, the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission has approved Honda’s project to build a third plant in Wuhan, which plans to manufacture sports utility vehicles (SUVs), cars and electric vehicles. 240,000 vehicles. After the completion, Dongfeng Honda's production capacity will increase by 50% from the current 480,000, reaching a scale of 720,000.
According to the document, Dongfeng Honda's third plant is located in the 72MD plot of the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. The shareholders of Dongfeng Honda No. 3 Plant are 50% (China) of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., 40% (Japan) of Honda Techno Industry Co., Ltd., and 10% of Honda Technician Industry (China) Investment Co., Ltd.
