Isoprene rubber is commonly known as synthetic natural rubber. China's natural rubber resources are in short supply. In 2006, it imported 1.61 million tons, and domestic production was only 530,000 tons. Isoprene rubber is the best alternative to natural rubber. At present, among the seven major synthetic rubber products in China, only isoprene rubber has not yet achieved industrial production. With the development of the domestic ethylene industry, China now has the basis and conditions for the large-scale use of carbon. Separation of carbon 5 can provide a variety of valuable chemical raw materials, of which isoprene is the raw material for producing isoprene rubber. The production cost of monomer isoprene accounts for more than 60% of the total production cost of isoprene rubber.
For a long time, the domestic chemical utilization rate of carbon 5 resources is less than 15%, while the utilization rates of chemical industry in Europe, America and Japan are all around 80%. According to expert analysis, the market for comprehensive utilization of carbon 5 resources is vast. In the tire production only, replacing natural rubber with 20% isoprene rubber can replace the tire structural formula without changing the tire structure. By 2010, 400,000 tons of isoprene rubber will be required.
It is understood that in 2006 China's ethylene production reached 9.412 million tons, and by 2010 it will reach more than 16 million tons, and the available carbon 5 resources will be 2.3 million tons or more, and will be concentrated in the northeast and Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Bohai Rim respectively. 2 million to 3 million tons of ethylene production capacity makes it possible to use carbon 5 resources on a large scale. China's carbon five resources and other separation technologies have been industrialized, and the isoprene rubber synthesis technology has basically reached the level of industrialization. At present, China's isoprene rubber industry is already in a relatively low risk period with resources and markets, and it is feasible to build 10,000-ton isoprene rubber units.
Experts believe that the source of inexpensive and stable monomers is the key to determining whether the production of isoprene rubber is economical. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on the construction of carbon 5 utilization devices in sub-regions in order to achieve large-scale utilization. Isoprene rubber equipment should rely on carbon five separation device construction to reduce production costs, making its price competitive with natural rubber.
It is understood that 95% of ethylene plants and carbon 5 resources in China are concentrated in Sinopec and PetroChina. The comprehensive utilization of carbon 5 resources has been highly valued by the two companies and is currently being planned accordingly.
