One of the future studies is the introduction of the innovative plasticization concept Energizer, which minimizes energy input and requires no cooling for most of the barrel. With Energizer, the melt temperature can be reduced by 20 degrees at the same yield and melt quality.

In this future concept of extruders, Reifenhuser Extrusion Technologies places special emphasis on energy, power, reliability, maintenance, operation, and design and functionality. How far are these concepts from us? Combining all these concepts and ultimately achieving economical commercial production, Reifenhuser believes it will take six years.

In cooperation with Siemens, the extrusion technology company has demonstrated the concept of an extrusion drive that can be freely selected in the form of a motor. Without additional engineering investment, the customer is free to choose the required degree of motor protection and cooling. This technology is expected to enter the market in 2015. Another prospective application is the cooling and target heating application of Peltier components in slotted sleeves.

The efficiency of plastic extruders is mainly reflected in high output, low energy consumption and low manufacturing cost. In terms of functions, screw extruders are not only used for extrusion molding and mixing of polymer materials, but their use has been broadened into food, feed, electrodes, explosives, building materials, packaging, pulp, ceramics and other fields. In addition, the "one-step extrusion process" in which the kneading granulation and the extrusion molding process are combined into one is also worthy of attention.

In the developed countries, extruders have adopted modern electronic and computer control technologies, process parameters such as melt pressure and temperature, body temperature, main screw and feed screw speed, and feed rate for the entire extrusion process. The parameters of various raw materials, the current and voltage of the motor are measured online, and the closed-loop control of the microcomputer is adopted. Some companies have adopted online remote monitoring, diagnosis and control to network control the extrusion molding line. This is extremely advantageous for ensuring the stability of the process conditions and improving the accuracy of the product.
