LANXESS plans to build the world's largest polybutadiene rubber plant

It is reported that German LANXESS company said on Wednesday that the company is planning to build a new set of the world's largest polybutadiene rubber plant in Singapore. The 200 million euro (US$290 million) plant will be located on Jurong Island with a designed capacity of 140,000 tons/year and is adjacent to the 100,000 tons/year butyl rubber plant currently under construction at LANXESS. The butyl rubber plant is expected to be completed and put into production in the first quarter of 2013. The new thorium polybutadiene rubber plant will be completed and put into operation in the first quarter of 2015.

According to Ian Wood, general manager of LANXESS Singapore, the reason for choosing Singapore is because of good infrastructure, high skilled personnel, large seaports, and proximity to emerging markets.

LANXESS has already signed an agreement with Singapore Petrochemical Company for the long-term supply of butadiene feedstock through pipelines.
