According to RCU news, the RCU (Russian Chemists' Union) called on the Ministry of Industry to increase tariffs on Russian imports of titanium dioxide by no less than 15% and set the customs guide price of this product to not less than US$2,300 per ton.
Since the European Union decided to ban any products produced in Crimea from being sold in the European Union, the Russian Chemists’ Union called on domestic consumers to replace imported titanium dioxide with titanium dioxide produced by Crimean Titan.
It is very difficult for Russian consumers to completely replace imported titanium dioxide. First of all, raw materials for the production of titanium dioxide are located in Ukraine; secondly, not all consumers are satisfied with the titanium dioxide produced by Crimean Titanium. At present, the United States still maintains its position as the world's largest net exporter of titanium dioxide due to the high quality of its products. Although Russian paint and coatings manufacturers have tended to reduce the import of titanium dioxide from Europe and the United States, some manufacturers are also more interested in Chinese titanium dioxide and are therefore not in a hurry to purchase Crimean titanium products.
Due to the large changes in the ruble exchange rate at the end of 2014, all imported goods have become very expensive for Russians. Since the end of October 2014, most of the importers of titanium dioxide have used the US dollar quotation for the Russian market. Currency conversions are based on the exchange rate at the time of payment.
In 2014, Russia imported more than 75,000 tons of titanium dioxide.
