Scientists have invented silk protein cling film that can hold fruit for more than a week as a natural, biodegradable plastic wrap made from alternative plastics. Some people estimate that by 2050 there will be more plastics in the world's oceans. Doctors also warned that certain types of plastic containers may be harmful to health.

The results of the study showed that silk fibroin film prolongs the freshness of perishable fruits by slowing fruit oxidation, prolonging fruit firmness and preventing dehydration.
