Technology of pressure leaching of cobalt in limonite iron-vanadium sulfate

In recent years, the wet technology for extracting nickel and cobalt from iron- vanadium ore has received increasing attention due to low production costs and environmental protection compared to energy-intensive and air-polluting fire technology. In the case where both iron and aluminum are dissolved and precipitated, the recovery of nickel and cobalt exceeds 90%. The test was carried out by a pressure leaching method, and the test equipment was an acid- injectable titanium autoclave and a sample recovery device. Test conditions: The acid accounts for 30% of the ore mass and the temperature ranges from 230 to 270 °C. The characteristics of solid products in the limonite bauxite ore and leaching process were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The results show that nickel is mainly related to the iron mineral phase, while cobalt exists only in the nickel-rich manganese structure; during the leaching process, the goethite dissolves and releases nickel, and the iron reprecipitates in situ in the form of dense hematite; The cobalt dissolves quickly and remains in the aqueous phase, after which the manganese dissolves, but the dissolution rate is lower than the cobalt dissolution rate. At the end of the leaching, cobalt-depleted manganese particles are obtained. In the test range, the temperature increase during the leaching process has little effect on the dissolution rate of cobalt, but the increase of the slurry agitation rate leads to an increase in the dissolution rate. TEM photographs of solid materials and their respective mineralogical analyses indicate that membrane diffusion is a possible rate controlling step and that the shrinkage core model can be used to explain the dissolution kinetics of cobalt.
