An oil filler cap is fitted to the oil filler pipe to cover the hole in which the engine oil is poured. It retains the Oil Pan in the oil and prevents it from overflowing or leaking into the engine compartment. Oil-filled caps can be made out of plastic, aluminum, steel, rubber, and metal. Although the position of an oil filling cap varies depending on the makeup and model of the car, it is usually easy to locate. It is usually located on the top of the engine, especially on the valve cover, which has an oil symbol on its surface. Other oil filling caps have the word "engine oil" on them.
