Waterborne electrolytes will create safer mobile phone batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are difficult to escape from safety issues, in part due to the nature of the electrolyte's charge and energy release as ions travel between electrodes. They usually must be made of easily combustible chemicals to provide enough electricity. However, this may not be a problem soon. The scientists created an aqueous electrolyte that is relatively safe and manages enough voltage (4V) and use.

The key is a high concentration of salt that produces the same protective layer on the electrode (solid electrolyte interface) as the conventional electrolyte, retaining the electrode and keeping the battery more energetic.
There is now a major problem: these aqueous electrolyte batteries do not last long. They only continue to cycle 70 times, and many traditional lithium-ion batteries last for hundreds of cycles or more. However, the fact that researchers overcome safety and voltage issues remains important. Although this does not guarantee that your device will be completely protected from battery failure, it may only be a matter of time.
